Montha Cyclone: The Montha cyclone, currently battering neighbouring states, is expected to have a partial impact on several districts of Karnataka. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a decline in rainfall intensity across most regions on Tuesday, but strong winds and cloudy weather will persist, especially in the coastal belt. Bengaluru is likely to witness overcast skies with occasional light to moderate showers.
The IMD has warned of strong winds reaching 45–55 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph in coastal areas. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until conditions improve. Districts like Kolar and Kodagu are expected to receive moderate rain, while Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada will experience light rainfall along with high wind activity.
In northern parts of the state, including Ballari, Raichur, Yadgir, and Bidar, cloudy conditions and light rain are expected. Kalaburagi, Chitradurga, Dharwad, and Belagavi may also see intermittent drizzles and overcast skies.
Meanwhile, the Montha cyclone has made landfall near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, prompting high alerts in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, and Puducherry. Several coastal villages in Andhra have been evacuated as heavy rains continue to lash the region. The NDRF and SDRF teams are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations.
Karnataka, however, is expected to face only the indirect effects of the cyclone. The state disaster management authority has advised coastal administrations to stay vigilant. Weather conditions are expected to stabilize by Wednesday as the cyclone weakens inland.
