Kempegowda airport bags top regional honour for third year

 

Bengaluru : The Kempegowda International Airport has once again brought pride to Karnataka by securing a major global recognition. The airport has been adjudged the ‘Best Regional Airport in India and South Asia’ for the third consecutive year at the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards 2026.

This consistent recognition highlights Bengaluru airport’s growing stature as a leading aviation hub, known for delivering world-class passenger experience and operational excellence. The airport has also made significant progress in global rankings, climbing from 48th to 41st position, thereby strengthening its place among the world’s top 50 airports.

The Skytrax awards are widely regarded as the gold standard in the aviation industry, evaluating airports based on multiple parameters such as check-in efficiency, arrivals, transfers, retail services, security, immigration, and overall departure experience. The latest honour reflects the airport’s sustained focus on enhancing customer satisfaction and seamless travel.

Adding to its achievements, the airport’s Terminal 2 has emerged as a major highlight. It became India’s first terminal to receive a 5-star rating from Skytrax, setting new benchmarks in design, sustainability, and passenger comfort. The airport has also been recognised multiple times as one of the best arrival airports globally.

Reacting to the achievement, CEO and Managing Director Hari Marar said the award reflects the airport’s long-term vision and unwavering commitment to passengers. He noted that the recognition is the result of collective efforts by employees and partner organisations working towards redefining modern airport experiences.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted also praised the airport’s performance, stating that winning the award for the third consecutive year is a remarkable accomplishment and a reflection of strong passenger approval.

Operationally, the airport continues to record impressive growth. In 2025, it handled 43.82 million passengers and managed over 520,985 metric tonnes of cargo, reinforcing its position as a major aviation and logistics hub in South India.

With expanding connectivity, infrastructure upgrades, and a strong emphasis on sustainability, Kempegowda International Airport is steadily evolving into a key global transit hub, setting new standards in service quality and innovation.
