Principal assaults students inside residential school room in Chikmagalur

Seven students of a residential school in Chikmagalur were allegedly locked inside a room and beaten with a belt and plastic pipe by the principal and staff.

A disturbing incident of violence against students has surfaced from a residential school in Chikmagalur district where a principal and a staff member allegedly assaulted several children. The incident reportedly took place at the Ekalavya residential school located in Taruve village near Kottigehara in Mudigere taluk.

According to reports seven students were locked inside a room and beaten with a belt and a plastic pipe by the principal and a staff member. The attack was reportedly triggered by a minor issue after the students were seen playing in the playground without taking prior permission.

The situation became alarming when cries and screams were heard from inside the hostel building. Workers from a nearby coffee plantation noticed the distress calls and immediately alerted the Banakal police about the incident. Police officers rushed to the school and rescued the students who had been confined inside the room.

Authorities said the students suffered injuries on their hands and legs due to the beating. The injured children were later shifted to the government hospital in Mudigere for medical treatment. Doctors are currently monitoring their condition.

Initial information suggests that a small argument had taken place among students on Friday night. The principal reportedly became angry over the matter and confronted the students the next morning. When the children were seen playing in the ground without permission the principal and a staff member allegedly attacked them.

The students later informed police that the principal named Satish along with a staff member identified as Shubham carried out the assault. Based on the statements given by the students the Banakal police are likely to register a formal case and begin further investigation into the incident.
