Karnataka heavy rainfall: Karnataka is currently under a significant heavy rain alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with widespread rainfall expected across the state for the next several days. Karnataka heavy rainfall: Red alert issued in Coastal Karnataka districts.
This is due to an active monsoon trough and an offshore weather system along the Maharashtra-Karnataka coast.

Red Alert (Heavy to Very Heavy Rain, with possibility of Extremely Heavy Rainfall):
Coastal Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts are under a red alert. These areas are likely to experience very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall with gusty winds (30-40 kmph).
South Interior Karnataka: Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Shivamogga districts are also under a red alert, with potential for extremely heavy rain in isolated spots.
North Interior Karnataka: Belagavi district is forecast to receive heavy to very heavy rain with strong winds (40-50 kmph).
Yellow Alert / Heavy Rain Forecast:
Coastal Karnataka: Intense rainfall is expected to continue for at least the next two days before easing slightly, though light to moderate rain will persist.
North Interior Karnataka: Dharwad is also forecast to receive heavy rain. Other districts like Bidar, Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir are likely to experience light to moderate rain with gusty winds.
South Interior Karnataka: Kodagu is on alert for heavy rain. Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Davangere are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with strong winds.
Bengaluru: The capital and surrounding areas are expected to witness generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain over the next 48 hours, with winds up to 50 kmph.
Expected Impacts:
The IMD has warned of potential impacts including:
Reduced visibility leading to traffic congestion.
Uprooting of trees and damage to power infrastructure.
Partial damage to vulnerable structures like kutcha houses and huts.
Flash floods in low-lying areas.
Waterlogging/flooding in many parts of low-lying areas.
Landslides/mudslides/landslips, especially over coastal and ghat areas.
Damage to standing crops and vegetables.
Lightning, which may injure people and cattle in open places.

Residents, especially in flood and landslide-prone areas, are advised to stay alert and follow local advisories issued by district administrations. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea along and off the Karnataka coast due to squally weather and strong winds.
The rainfall intensity is generally expected to reduce gradually across the state from July 7, though light to moderate showers with gusty winds could continue in several areas until at least July 9.
