Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Coastal Karnataka as Monsoon Intensifies Across the State
The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall across coastal and Malnad districts with orange and yellow alerts while Bengaluru and several interior regions are expected to receive moderate showers
The southwest monsoon has intensified across Karnataka, prompting the weather department to issue rain alerts for several districts. Coastal regions are expected to witness the heaviest rainfall over the next few days, while many parts of the state, including Bengaluru, are likely to receive moderate showers accompanied by gusty winds.
An orange alert has been issued for the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, where heavy rain is expected. Strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour are also likely in these areas. Authorities have advised residents living along the coast and members of the fishing community to remain cautious and closely follow official weather updates.
The Malnad region is also expected to experience significant rainfall. Yellow alerts have been announced for Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu, where heavy showers may occur at isolated locations. People in these districts have been urged to stay alert, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and landslides.
Several districts in northern Karnataka are also under weather watch. Belagavi and Dharwad have been placed under a yellow alert due to the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places. Meanwhile, Bagalkot, Bidar, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir are expected to receive light to moderate rain along with winds reaching up to 40 kilometres per hour.
Bengaluru and surrounding districts are also likely to experience changing weather conditions. Light to moderate rainfall has been forecast for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara. Rainfall in these regions may be accompanied by strong winds and cloudy skies.
Weather officials have advised the public to remain cautious during periods of intense rain and gusty winds. People have been asked to avoid taking shelter near weak structures, trees and electricity poles, as strong winds could increase the risk of accidents. Motorists are also encouraged to drive carefully on rain affected roads and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
With monsoon activity expected to remain active over the coming days, authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge residents in affected districts to prioritize safety while making travel and outdoor plans.
