Health department clears KMF products; federation warns of criminal cases over viral rumours

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has moved to counter viral social media claims alleging that its Nandini products pose cancer risks, calling the allegations “false, misleading and defamatory.” The federation has initiated criminal proceedings against those responsible for circulating the claims.

The controversy surfaced after social media posts attributed to Dr Sharanya Santhosh claimed that consuming KMF products could lead to cancer. The posts quickly gained traction, causing anxiety among consumers.

Responding to the allegations, KMF Managing Director B. Shivaswamy said the claims were entirely unfounded. He clarified that all KMF products are manufactured under strict quality control standards and do not contain harmful chemicals. “Our products are safe, natural and tested. There is no cause for concern,” he said.

The federation has already registered a case against the individual named in the viral posts and warned that further legal action would follow if misinformation continues to spread. Shivaswamy stressed that making unverified claims against a reputed brand amounts to misleading the public and damaging its credibility.

To address public concerns, the Food Safety and Quality Department conducted laboratory tests on a range of KMF products. The department’s report confirmed that all items, including Mysore Pak, Milk Peda, Paneer and Vanilla Milkshake, met safety standards and were fit for consumption.

Officials noted that KMF products are regularly subjected to stringent inspections and comply with statutory food safety norms. The federation reiterated its commitment to maintaining high-quality standards and protecting consumer confidence.

As one of Karnataka’s most recognised dairy brands with a significant presence in domestic and international markets, KMF said it would not tolerate attempts to tarnish its reputation through baseless allegations. Consumers have been urged to rely only on official communications and verified reports regarding product safety.
