Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has banned the slaughter of animals and the sale of meat in Bengaluru on Wednesday, August 27, for the Ganesha festival (Ganesh Chaturthi).
This is a recurring measure taken by the BBMP on the day of the festival to respect religious sentiments. The order applies to all slaughterhouses and meat shops within the BBMP limits.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a set of guidelines and regulations for the Ganesha festival (Ganesh Chaturthi) to ensure eco-friendly celebrations and public safety.

Idol Regulations
Ban on PoP and Chemical Paints: The manufacture and sale of Ganesha idols made from Plaster of Paris (PoP), thermocol, and idols painted with chemical paints are strictly prohibited.
Promotion of Eco-Friendly Idols: Citizens are encouraged to use Ganesha idols made from natural clay.
Enforcement: BBMP, police, fire, and BESCOM officials will conduct inspections to seize banned materials, impose fines, and file criminal cases against violators.
Permissions for Public Installations:
Single-Window System: To simplify the process, the BBMP has set up 75 single-window centers at the sub-divisional level.
Application Process: Individuals and organizations seeking permission to install public Ganesha idols must apply at the offices of the designated Assistant Executive Engineers (Nodal Officers). These officers will coordinate with the police, BESCOM, and fire department to issue approvals.
Immersion Guidelines:
Home Immersion: Citizens are encouraged to immerse small, eco-friendly idols at home in buckets and reuse the residual clay for gardening.
Designated Immersion Sites: The BBMP will identify and publicize designated immersion locations, including temporary immersion tanks at lakes and in each ward. Mobile immersion units will also be deployed.
Waste Management: Dedicated teams will be present at immersion sites to manage waste, with wet waste being sent to BBMP’s processing units.
Other Regulations:
Meat Ban: A ban on the slaughter of animals and the sale of meat is in effect on Wednesday, August 27, the day of the festival, to respect religious sentiments.
Law and Order: Organizers of public celebrations are advised to avoid installing idols in the middle of roads to ensure public convenience and compliance with legal guidelines.
Bank Holiday: Banks in Bengaluru will be closed on Wednesday, August 27, in observance of the festival. However, digital banking services will remain operational.
