Chamrajnagar: The residents of the district have been on edge due to increasing wild animal attacks, particularly by tigers and leopards. In a bid to ease public anxiety, forest department officials have successfully carried out operations to capture the animals, offering a temporary respite to the villagers.
Tiger and cubs safely captured in Bandipur
In a coordinated effort by forest officials from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, a mother tiger and three of her cubs were safely captured. The operation took place in the Gundlupet taluk’s Kallahalli village, which has been witnessing heightened animal activity. The local farmers, who had been worried about the tiger’s attacks on livestock, can now breathe easy.
The tiger, estimated to be around four years old, had been consistently preying on livestock, which led to increased fears among the villagers. After extensive combing operations, the tiger was located using a drone.
A tranquilizer dart was used to sedate the mother tiger, and the cubs were rescued shortly afterward. The animals were later transported to the rehabilitation center in Mysuru for their safe relocation.
Leopard captured in Bommanahalli and released back into the forest
In another incident, a leopard was caught in a trap set by the forest department in Bommanahalli, located within the Bandipur Tiger Reserve’s Kundkere range. The 4-year-old female leopard had been causing distress in the nearby area by attacking livestock, particularly goats. Villagers had been living in constant fear of further attacks, which prompted the forest department to set a trap.
The leopard, in search of food, had fallen into the trap, and upon being captured, was safely released into the dense forest of Bandipur. The incident has brought much-needed relief to the local farming community, who had been suffering from frequent attacks.
Forest department intensifies efforts to control animal menace
The forest department has been working tirelessly to address the issue of wild animals straying into human habitation, especially after reports of leopards and tigers entering agricultural areas. Villagers had been under constant fear due to the attacks, which were causing significant loss to livestock.
With the capture and safe release of both the tiger family and the leopard, the forest department hopes to restore peace and prevent further incidents. They have promised to continue monitoring wildlife movement in the region and take swift action to ensure the safety of both animals and humans.
Relief for the villagers
The successful operations have brought a sense of relief to the villagers in Chamrajnagar, who had been living in constant fear of animal attacks. The efforts of the forest department, particularly the use of drones and traps, have been crucial in preventing further harm and ensuring the safety of both wildlife and human life.
