Redmi 17 5G Launched In India With 7900mAh Battery And 50MP Camera
Redmi 17 5G has launched in India with a 7900mAh battery, 50MP camera, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform, 120Hz display and HyperOS 3, with sales starting September 10 online soon.

Xiaomi has expanded its Redmi smartphone lineup in India with the launch of the Redmi 17 5G. The new handset focuses heavily on battery life, while also bringing a 120Hz display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 50MP rear camera.
The smartphone will go on sale in India from September 10 through Amazon and Xiaomi’s official website. It will be offered in Absolute Black, Endless Blue and Eternal Orange colour options.
The Redmi 17 5G is available in two configurations. The 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version carries a listed price of Rs 39999, while the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage model is listed at Rs 41999. The company has also highlighted net effective prices of Rs 23999 and Rs 26999 respectively, depending on applicable benefits and offers.
One of the biggest highlights is the battery. The phone comes with a 7900mAh battery and supports 45W Turbo Charging. It also supports 22.5W reverse charging, allowing the handset to provide power to compatible devices when required.
The large battery is paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 mobile platform. The processor is designed for everyday smartphone use, including social media, video streaming, communication and other regular tasks. The phone runs Android 16 with Xiaomi HyperOS 3.
On the front, Redmi has fitted a 6.9 inch display. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Xiaomi lists HBM brightness at up to 825 nits. The combination of a large screen and high refresh rate is aimed at users who spend considerable time watching content or browsing on their phones.
The camera setup keeps things fairly straightforward. At the back, the Redmi 17 5G gets a 50MP primary camera with an f 1.8 aperture. For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP front camera with an f 2.05 aperture.
Storage should not be a major concern for users who need additional space. The phone comes with either 6GB or 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 internal storage. Virtual RAM support can take the memory up to 16GB, while expandable storage support is available up to 2TB.
The device also includes a side mounted fingerprint sensor and an AI based face unlock system. For durability, it carries an IP64 rating for protection against dust and water exposure under supported conditions.
Xiaomi has included several sensors in the handset, including a virtual proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer and electronic compass. Connectivity options include 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and a USB Type C port. The phone also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack and supports FM radio.
The Redmi 17 5G is not a particularly lightweight phone. It measures 170.12mm in length, 78.42mm in width and 8.8mm in thickness, while its weight is 232 grams. The sizeable battery is likely one of the main reasons for its heavier build.
With the Redmi 17 5G, the company appears to be targeting buyers who place battery endurance high on their priority list. The 7900mAh capacity is the standout specification, while 45W charging, a 120Hz display and 5G connectivity add to the overall package.
The pricing structure could also make the new model interesting for customers comparing large battery smartphones. However, buyers should check the final amount payable at the time of purchase because the advertised net effective price can depend on applicable offers and conditions.
The Redmi 17 5G will officially become available from September 10, giving Indian buyers a new option in the segment with a particularly large battery and a feature focused hardware package.
