Karnataka Weather Forecast Predicts Rain And Strong Winds In Coastal And Interior Districts

The southwest monsoon is expected to remain active across several parts of Karnataka over the next two days, with the coastal belt likely to receive the most widespread rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has forecast moderate showers in many locations on September 4 and 5.

According to the Bengaluru centre of the IMD, the monsoon is currently relatively weak over coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka, while conditions remain closer to normal over north interior Karnataka. Even so, several districts are expected to experience rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

South Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are among the coastal districts where moderate rain is likely at many places on both days. Residents in these areas may experience cloudy and wet conditions as the weather system continues to influence the region.

The forecast also points to stronger winds in parts of north interior Karnataka. On September 4, districts including Vijayapura, Gadag, Raichur, Belagavi, Dharwad and Bagalkot may receive moderate rainfall along with winds reaching speeds of around 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

Bidar, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal and Yadgir may also see light to moderate showers. Winds in these areas could reach around 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, according to the forecast.

The weather outlook remains similar for September 5. Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir could receive moderate rain in some areas, with winds reaching around 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

Rain is not expected to remain limited to the northern districts. Several parts of south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, are also likely to receive moderate showers.

On September 4, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara may experience moderate rainfall in some locations.

Winds of around 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are also possible in these districts. The same broad weather pattern is expected to continue on September 5, when many areas across south interior Karnataka could receive intermittent moderate showers along with gusty winds.

Recent rainfall records also show that showers have already been reported in different parts of the state. Data released by the weather department for the 24 hour period ending Thursday evening showed that the southwest monsoon remained normal over north interior Karnataka but was relatively weak over coastal and south interior areas.

Kushtagi in Koppal district recorded 3 centimetres of rainfall during the period. Basagoda in Uttara Kannada received 2 centimetres, while Gadag also recorded 2 centimetres. Gokarna in Uttara Kannada reported another 2 centimetres of rain.

The latest forecast suggests that wet weather could continue across several districts during the coming days. Coastal Karnataka is expected to remain the area with the broadest rainfall coverage, while parts of the northern and southern interior may see showers at scattered locations.

With strong winds also included in the forecast for several districts, residents and motorists should remain cautious during periods of heavy rain and gusty weather. People travelling through areas that receive sudden showers should keep an eye on local weather updates before starting their journey.

For Bengaluru and surrounding districts, the forecast points to intermittent rainfall rather than continuous rain across every location. Weather conditions can vary from one part of the city or district to another, so residents may experience different levels of rainfall even within nearby areas.
