Two killed, one critical in high-speed car crash near Dandeli

Karwar : Two people lost their lives and another sustained serious injuries after a speeding car lost control and crashed into a tree near Ajgaon in Karka Cross, under Dandeli taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
The deceased have been identified as Farooq Saab from Dharwad and Mudassir Ismail Mulla from Haliyal. The injured person has been shifted to a nearby hospital and is said to be in critical condition, according to police sources.
The accident occurred while the victims were travelling from Dandeli towards Haliyal. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver lost control due to overspeeding, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and ram into a roadside tree. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car got wedged between two trees, leaving the occupants trapped inside.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted emergency services. Police and rescue teams arrived shortly after and extricated the victims from the mangled vehicle. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the Haliyal taluk hospital for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered at the Dandeli Police Station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also examining whether negligence or other factors contributed to the crash.
The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and overspeeding, especially on forested and narrow roads in the region. Police have urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution to prevent such tragic accidents.
