SWAT woman commando beaten to death by husband in Delhi, probe underway

New Delhi: In yet another shocking incident reported from the national capital, a 27-year-old SWAT woman commando was allegedly beaten to death by her husband using a gym dumbbell, police said. The deceased has been identified as Kajal, a serving police officer attached to a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.

According to police officials, the brutal assault took place at the couple’s residence in Dwarka Mor area of southwest Delhi. The accused husband, Ankur Chaudhary (28), allegedly attacked Kajal during a heated argument related to domestic issues and dowry demands.

He reportedly struck her repeatedly on the head with a heavy iron dumbbell and also slammed her head against a door frame, causing severe head injuries. Following the assault, Kajal was rushed to a private hospital in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in a critical condition. Doctors later declared her brain-dead.

She was subsequently shifted to another private hospital in Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, where she succumbed to her injuries on January 25, police confirmed. In a disturbing detail, police said Kajal made her last phone call to her brother moments before losing consciousness.

“My sister called me screaming for help. I could hear her cries, and then the call suddenly disconnected,” her brother Nikhil told investigators. Police further revealed that after allegedly assaulting Kajal, Ankur himself called Nikhil and confessed to killing her. “He told me that he had killed my sister and asked me to take away her body,” Nikhil stated in his complaint, which has been cited by the police.

According to the statement, Ankur had earlier called Nikhil around 10 pm on January 22, claiming that Kajal was arguing with him. When Kajal took the phone to explain the situation, Ankur allegedly snatched it away. Around five minutes later, he made another call confessing to the crime.

Alarmed by the calls, Nikhil immediately rushed to Delhi late at night. By the time he reached the house, Ankur’s family members had already arrived and shifted Kajal to a nearby hospital. Despite medical intervention, her condition did not improve.

Delhi Police have registered a case of murder and dowry harassment and taken Ankur Chaudhary into custody. The crime scene has been examined, and the iron dumbbell used in the assault has been seized. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and any prior history of domestic abuse.

The incident has once again sparked outrage over rising cases of domestic violence, even against women serving in uniform.
