Summer heat claims lives: Three drown in Chikkamagaluru district

Chikkamagaluru : The rising summer heat has led to an increase in drowning incidents across Karnataka, with three deaths reported from Chikkamagaluru district in separate cases.
In Bannur village, two labourers working in a coffee plantation were found dead in a farm pond. The victims, identified as Ramesh (27) and Mahesh (34), hailed from Jayapura village in Koppa taluk. Preliminary investigations suggest that the duo may have entered the pond for a swim and drowned.
The suspicion arose after their footwear was found abandoned near the water body. Fire and rescue teams were alerted and conducted a search operation, eventually retrieving the bodies. The Aldur police have registered a case and are probing the incident.
Meanwhile, in another incident, the body of Nithin (34) was recovered from the Bhadra backwaters near Siddaramaiah Bridge in NR Pura taluk. Nithin, a resident of Shiguvane village, had gone missing while swimming with friends.
Rescue teams carried out a continuous search operation before recovering the body on Sunday morning. Police have taken up the case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the drowning.
Officials have expressed concern over the increasing number of such incidents during summer, attributing them to people venturing into unsafe water bodies without proper precautions.
