Stone Pelting in Ganesh procession: On September 8 Police in Maddur, Mandya district, resorted to a lathi charge to disperse protesters following the stone-pelting incident that occurred during a Ganesh idol immersion procession on Sunday, September 7.
Pro-Hindu organizations had gathered to protest the stone-pelting, despite prohibitory orders under Section 144 being in place. When the protesters did not heed police warnings to disperse, police used a lathi charge to bring the situation under control. Reports and viral video indicate that even women protesters were baton-charged.

The incident on Sunday night, where stones were allegedly thrown at the procession, led to clashes between two communities. The police have arrested several individuals in connection with the initial incident and have maintained a heavy presence in the town to prevent further escalation.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parmeshwara has confirmed that the situation is under control and that strict action is being taken against all those involved in the clashes. The district administration has appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement.
