Shivamogga: Thieves ate the palav given by the old woman, slit her throat and stole her gold!

Shivamogga: The police in Kunsi have solved the brutal murder of an elderly woman that occurred last month, arresting two accused individuals, Aman Singh (21) and Vikas (22). The murder of 70-year-old Basamma shocked the local community, and the police investigation has now uncovered the details behind the crime.

Details of the murder:

At a press briefing on Monday, Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar shared the findings of the investigation. The murder took place in Kunsi, where Basamma was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Initially, Basamma’s son-in-law, Ishwarappa, had filed a complaint against Basamma’s son, Ramesh, as the primary suspect. However, after investigating, the police concluded that Ramesh was not involved in the crime.

Suspicious circumstances:

When the police visited the crime scene, they found that both the front and back doors of the house were locked, and there were no signs of forced entry. The house was in a state of disarray, but there were no indications of theft. The investigation team ruled out robbery as a motive and dug deeper into the case.

Breakthrough in the investigation:

After thorough investigation, the police arrested two suspects—Aman Singh, who lived near Basamma’s house, and Vikas, who was his associate. SP Mithun Kumar confirmed that both had confessed to the crime during interrogation.

How the murder happened:

According to the police, Aman Singh and Vikas had visited Basamma’s house under the pretext of discussing a gas cylinder issue. During their visit, Basamma offered them food, and while they were eating, Aman Singh asked for water.

As she went to fetch the water, both suspects attacked Basamma from behind with a weapon, slashing her neck. She fell to the ground, bleeding heavily. The assailants then proceeded to stab her repeatedly—around 15 to 16 times—leading to her death from excessive blood loss.

Theft and escape:

After the murder, the accused took off Basamma’s ear ornaments, chain, and a ring before escaping through the back door around 7:45 pm. The police have recovered the stolen items, and the accused are currently in custody.

The swift police investigation has brought relief to the local community, and the police have assured that they will continue to work on solving other such cases with the same dedication and speed.
