Serial wedding thief ‘Pulsar Babu’ arrested in Bengaluru; valuables worth ₹42 lakh seized

The accused, identified as Babu alias “Pulsar Babu,” was caught red-handed while attempting theft at a wedding event held at Palace Grounds.

Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough, Sadashivanagar police have arrested a notorious serial thief who allegedly targeted wedding functions across the city. The accused, identified as Babu alias “Pulsar Babu,” was caught red-handed while attempting theft at a wedding event held at Palace Grounds.

Police said the accused had a unique modus operandi, focusing on crowded wedding venues where guests were distracted. He specifically targeted children, stealing gold ornaments, mobile phones, and other valuables with ease before fleeing the scene. His arrest has led to the unraveling of multiple theft cases reported in different parts of the city.

Investigations revealed that Pulsar Babu deliberately chose large wedding halls and functions with heavy footfall. While families were busy with ceremonies, he would move around unnoticed and pick targets, especially children wearing gold jewellery. Apart from ornaments and phones, he also stole cameras, laptops, and even parked two-wheelers from wedding venues.

According to police, the accused is involved in at least 19 theft cases. His criminal record shows repeated offences, with Babu having been arrested and released multiple times in the past. Officials said he resumed his activities after being released during the COVID-19 period, when several undertrial prisoners were let out on temporary relief.

Police further stated that the accused led a lavish lifestyle using stolen money. He would melt the stolen gold and convert it into customised jewellery such as rings and lockets. He also allegedly purchased cars and spent heavily on leisure and luxury.

Following his arrest, police recovered valuables worth ₹42.38 lakh from his possession. The seized items include two cars, 132 grams of gold ornaments, seven mobile phones, a camera, two lenses, two laptops, ₹1.2 lakh in cash, and four motorcycles.

Authorities confirmed that the arrest has helped crack at least eight theft cases registered across multiple police station limits, including Sadashivanagar, Varthur, Jalahalli, Hennur, and Bagalagunte.

Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant during large gatherings and advised event organisers to enhance surveillance measures to prevent such incidents.
