Lokayukta Raids: The Lokayukta police on Monday morning carried out surprise raids on the residence and offices of an Agriculture Department officer accused of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A team led by Chitradurga Lokayukta SP Vasudevaram, DySP Mrutyunjaya, and PI Manjunath conducted simultaneous searches at multiple locations belonging to Chandrakant, who serves as an Assistant Director in the Agriculture Department.
Raids were carried out at two houses owned by Chandrakant as well as his office in the Agriculture Department in Chitradurga. The operation began early in the morning, with officials examining property documents, bank records, and valuables suspected to be acquired through illegal means.
According to Lokayukta sources, searches were also conducted at Chandrakant’s properties in Taralabalu Nagar and T. Nulenuru village in Holalkere taluk, where several incriminating documents were reportedly found.
The Lokayukta team is said to be assessing the total value of the seized assets and verifying whether they match Chandrakant’s declared income. Preliminary reports suggest that the officer may have amassed significant wealth beyond his legitimate earnings.
This is the latest in a series of anti-corruption operations by the Lokayukta across Karnataka, as part of an intensified campaign to curb graft among government officials. Further details on the extent of the assets and legal action to follow are awaited.
