Foreign-style proposal’ turns deadly: woman sets lover ablaze in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, : A chilling case of love -turned-violence has emerged from Bengaluru, where a woman allegedly killed her boyfriend by setting him on fire after tying him to a chair, under the guise of a dramatic proposal.
The accused, Prerana (27), and the deceased, Kiran (27), had been in a relationship for about a year and were employed at the same telecom outlet. According to police investigations, the relationship had recently turned strained, with the woman reportedly upset over Kiran’s refusal to commit to marriage.
On Tuesday, Prerana reportedly called Kiran to her residence in Anjanapura when no other family members were present. After a brief conversation, she blindfolded him and tied him to a chair, convincing him that it was part of a creative proposal idea.
Police said Kiran initially resisted but later complied after being reassured. The accused then began recording the scene on her mobile phone.
In a horrifying escalation, she allegedly poured petrol on the victim and set him on fire. Unable to free himself, Kiran succumbed to burn injuries at the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Police D. L. Nagesh stated, “The accused has been detained and is being interrogated. It appears the act was driven by anger and frustration stemming from their relationship.”
Investigators confirmed that the video recording of the incident has been recovered and will form crucial evidence in the case. A murder case has been registered, and police are examining whether the act was pre-planned.
The brutal nature of the crime has sparked outrage and concern, highlighting the darker side of relationship conflicts and the potential for extreme violence.
