Film-style robbery cracked; five accused arrested, ₹10 lakh recovered
A gang of four miscreants, travelling on two bikes, allegedly followed him before intercepting his vehicle and robbing ₹31.38 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene.
Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested five accused involved in a film-style robbery that took place on February 1 on Sakalavara Road under the limits of Bannerghatta Police Station on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Cash worth ₹10 lakh has been recovered from the accused.
According to police, the accused had targeted a private agency employee, Srikailas, who was collecting cash from branches of a company and transporting it. A gang of four miscreants, travelling on two bikes, allegedly followed him before intercepting his vehicle and robbing ₹31.38 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene.
The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, had raised concerns due to its well-planned execution. Soon after the robbery, senior officers including Superintendent of Police Chandrakant and Additional SP Venkatesh Prasanna visited the spot and reviewed the situation. Three special teams were formed to track down the accused.
Police began their investigation by analysing CCTV footage and interrogating multiple suspects. During the probe, suspicion grew that the robbery could be an inside job. This led investigators to focus on Rakshit, an employee associated with the company.
“During questioning, it became clear that Rakshit was the mastermind behind the robbery. He had detailed knowledge of the cash movement and shared information with the gang,” a police officer said.
Based on leads, police arrested five accused identified as Nikhil, Prashanth alias Pinki, Arun Kumar, Harish, and Rakshit. The operation was led by DySP Mohan along with Inspectors Krishnakumar and Manjunath.
Officials confirmed that part of the stolen cash amounting to ₹10 lakh has been recovered, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining money. “We are continuing the investigation to recover the full amount and identify if more individuals were involved,” police added.
The accused, who executed the robbery in a cinematic manner, are now in police custody and have been remanded to judicial custody at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
The case highlights the role of technology and coordinated police work in solving complex crimes, especially those involving insider involvement.
