The Dharmasthala case involves allegations of mass burials and systematic crimes, particularly targeting women, in the temple town of Dharmasthala in Karnataka. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed by the Karnataka government to probe the allegations, and subsequent investigations led to the complainant being arrested for perjury, as forensic evidence contradicted some of his claims. The case has also expanded to include a “Kerala connection” with a notice issued to a Kerala-based YouTuber.

In the case of the skull brought by masked man Chinnaiah who claimed to have buried hundreds of bodies in Dharmasthala case, Kerala Communist (CPI) MP Santosh Kumar is now facing a trouble. Sources said that explosive information has come to light during the SIT investigation that after taking the skull, accused Chinnaiah, Girish Mattannavar, Jayant T had gone to the Kerala MP and raised the issue in front of them. With this, the case has now taken another turn.

On July 19, 2025, MP Santosh Kumar’s wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging for an inquiry by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

In his letter, he argued that the decades of unsolved crimes in Dharmasthala point to a “disturbing and systematic pattern of crimes” and that only a central agency like the NIA has the authority to uncover the truth. He also criticized the Karnataka government for its failure to establish a credible Special Investigation Team earlier.
