Daughter kills foster mother for property in Chikkamagaluru
Chikkamagaluru : In a shocking incident driven by greed, a woman allegedly murdered her 62-year-old foster mother for property in Bandimath village of N.R. Pura taluk, Chikkamagaluru district. The deceased has been identified as Kusuma, while the accused, Sudha, has been arrested by Balehonnur police.
According to police sources, Kusuma, originally from N.R. Pura, had been living in Bandimath, earning her livelihood through daily-wage work. Her husband had abandoned her years ago.
Out of affection and loneliness, she brought home her sister’s daughter, Sudha, and raised her like her own child. Later, Kusuma arranged Sudha’s marriage in Mysuru and even transferred a small coffee estate in N.R. Pura to her name through a will.
However, Kusuma reportedly revoked the will later, leading to frequent quarrels between the two. Sudha, upset over losing ownership of the property, had been pressuring her foster mother to give her money from the sale of part of the land.
Investigations revealed that on November 10, Sudha visited Bandimath from Mysuru. That night, while Kusuma was asleep, Sudha allegedly smothered her with a pillow, killing her instantly. She then staged a drama, claiming that Kusuma had died of a heart attack, and even conducted the funeral rituals herself to avoid suspicion.
The villagers grew suspicious after noticing injuries on Kusuma’s face and alerted the police. During the investigation, Sudha’s inconsistencies led police to uncover the truth. She later confessed to the murder, committed to gain property compensation as the house was located in a flood-prone zone marked for rehabilitation.
Police have registered a case at Balehonnur Police Station and remanded Sudha to judicial custody.
