T20 World Cup 2026: India will play against Pakistan on February 15
T20 World Cup 2026: The biggest rivalry in cricket is officially back on. The Pakistan government and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reversed their boycott decision, clearing the way for the India vs. Pakistan clash on February 15, 2026.
The standoff ended late last night (February 9) after marathon negotiations involving the International Cricket Council (ICC), PCB, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Pakistan had originally threatened a boycott in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were replaced in the tournament by Scotland after refusing to travel to co-host India.
The ICC will not impose financial or sporting penalties on Bangladesh for their non-participation. Bangladesh has been promised the hosting rights for a major ICC event prior to the 2031 World Cup.
Requests from “friendly nations”—specifically Sri Lanka (co-host) and the UAE—played a major role in persuading the Pakistan government to prioritize the “spirit of the game.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board had expressed its displeasure over the ICC and BCCI’s decision to drop the Bangladesh team. The PCB had also announced that it would boycott the match against India in protest of this move.
Meanwhile, if the match between India and Pakistan is not held, there will be a financial loss to the ICC’s revenue. Therefore, ICC officials have now started convincing the Pakistan Cricket Board. Accordingly, the ICC has succeeded in convincing the PCB by promising to fulfill some of its demands.
With this, the match between India and Pakistan is certain to be held on February 15. Accordingly, Indo-Pak will face off in a high-voltage match to be held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo next Sunday, and if Team India wins this match, it will almost certainly advance to the Super-8 stage.
