The ban on the stadium followed a tragic stampede incident outside the venue in June 2025 during RCB’s IPL title victory celebrations, which led to the venue being deemed unsafe until structural and crowd management issues were addressed.
According to RCB sources, the green signal has been given to play matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Thus, competitive cricket will soon return to the Bengaluru ground. It has also been said that the IPL matches starting from March will also be held at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
On June 4, 11 people died due to a stampede during the IPL victory celebration of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. Several others were injured. Taking this unpleasant incident seriously, the state government had ordered a judicial inquiry.
During this investigation, the shortcomings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru were revealed. Also, questions were raised about the security and safety of the stadium. After this tragedy, the BCCI did not organize any international matches in Bengaluru. Also, the commission headed by John Michael de Cunha had recommended some suggestions for organizing matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The committee headed by former Team India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who has now been elected as the new president of KSCA, has said that it is ready to follow the suggestions suggested by the government. Following this, Chinnaswamy Stadium has also got the green signal from the state government.
Accordingly, competitive cricket will soon return to Chinnaswamy Stadium. Especially, KSCA is eager to organize some matches of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Tournament. Through this, preparations have started to bring cricket back to Chinnaswamy Stadium. Along with this, it is also certain that the upcoming IPL matches will be held in Bengaluru.
