Bail application of Mahesh Shetty Timarodi Rejected in Illegal Arms Case

Mangaluru The District Sessions Court of Dakshina Kannada has rejected the anticipatory bail petition filed by social activist Mahesh Shetty Timarodi in connection with a case involving possession of illegal firearms.

The court, presided over by Principal District and Sessions Judge Basavaraj, upheld the arguments presented by the government counsel and dismissed the petition. Mahesh Shetty Timarodi still has the option to approach the High Court for further relief.

Government advocate Judith Olga Margaret Crast had represented the state in opposing the anticipatory bail plea. The case stems from a search conducted at Mahesh Shetty’s residence on September 16, during which authorities seized two swords and an airgun. Following the recovery, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) issued a notice for his appearance in connection with the case.

Mahesh Shetty had challenged the notice and the ensuing proceedings before the High Court, filing an anticipatory bail application. However, the Sessions Court dismissed the plea, maintaining that the investigation and judicial process must proceed without interruption.

The rejection of the bail petition means Mahesh Shetty may now face custody if he does not secure relief from the High Court. Authorities have indicated that the investigation into the illegal arms possession case is ongoing, and the SIT is actively pursuing further leads connected to the seized weapons.

This development has drawn attention in the region, particularly given Mahesh Shetty’s profile as a social activist known for his involvement in local protests and civic campaigns. The case continues to evolve, with the legal proceedings expected to progress once the matter reaches the High Court.
