Electronics Price Hike Set to Impact Smartphones Televisions and Air Conditioners in India
Consumers may soon face higher spending on electronics as companies prepare for a major price hike in smartphones televisions air conditioners and washing machines due to rising costs global tensions and weaker rupee.

Consumers planning to buy electronics may soon have to pay more as manufacturers are preparing to increase prices across several product categories. Smartphones televisions air conditioners and washing machines are expected to become significantly more expensive in the coming weeks.
Industry insiders say companies are planning price revisions of more than ten percent on many models. The increase will affect both entry level products and mid range devices that are widely purchased by households across the country.
Global tensions and rising costs behind the price hike
The electronics industry is facing growing pressure from multiple factors. Rising global tensions in West Asia have increased uncertainty in supply chains while key components used in electronics manufacturing have become more expensive over the past several months.
Companies also point to the weakening value of the Indian rupee as another major reason for the price hike. Import costs for components have increased sharply which is forcing manufacturers to adjust retail prices in order to manage financial pressure.
Several major international brands including Vivo Oppo Samsung and Xiaomi have already indicated that their product prices may rise by up to ten percent in the near future.
Prices may return to levels seen years ago
Industry experts say entry level electronics products that had become more affordable in recent years may again reach price levels seen six to eight years ago. A decade ago smartphones televisions and air conditioners were considered expensive for many consumers.
However prices gradually dropped as technology advanced and domestic manufacturing expanded. Government initiatives such as the production linked incentive scheme also helped reduce costs and encouraged local production.
Now with increasing production expenses and supply challenges the market is witnessing a reversal of that trend. Godrej business head Kamal Nandi said that prices could see a sharp increase starting next month.
Smartphone prices expected to rise sharply
Entry level 5G smartphones that were once available for less than ten thousand rupees during the previous festive season are now being sold between thirteen thousand and fourteen thousand rupees.
Industry estimates suggest that these devices could soon cost between seventeen thousand and eighteen thousand rupees in the next quarter. Some projections even indicate that prices may touch twenty thousand rupees within the next two or three months.
Television prices also climbing
The price of a thirty two inch smart television that was around six thousand five hundred rupees last year has already increased to nearly eight thousand five hundred rupees.
Experts expect the price to reach around ten thousand rupees by May. Interestingly this would bring television prices close to the levels seen during 2017 and 2018.
Air conditioner prices rising ahead of summer
Air conditioner prices are also expected to increase before the peak summer season. A three star air conditioner with one point five ton capacity which previously cost between thirty two thousand and thirty four thousand rupees is now expected to be priced between thirty seven thousand and forty thousand rupees.
Industry representatives say the sector is currently facing serious cost pressures and retailers may also reduce promotional offers such as cashback deals and trade discounts in the coming months.
