Bengaluru markets are witnessing a sharp rise in flower and fruit prices as families prepare for Varamahalakshmi festival celebrations across the city.

Varamahalakshmi festival demand has lifted flower prices.

KR Market is seeing heavy festive shopping.

Fruit prices have also climbed sharply.

The Varamahalakshmi festival rush has brought a familiar scene to Bengaluru markets, with shoppers arriving in large numbers to buy flowers and fruits for the upcoming celebrations. At KR Market, the increase in demand has also pushed prices noticeably higher.

With the festival just a day away, families are making their final purchases for puja and home decoration. Flowers, garlands and fruits are among the most sought after items, but shoppers are facing considerably higher prices compared with last week.

Among the flowers, chrysanthemums have risen from around Rs 150 per kg last week to Rs 450. Jasmine has climbed from Rs 500 to Rs 1,200, while Kanakambara has seen one of the steepest increases, moving from around Rs 2,000 to between Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 per kg.

Garland prices have also jumped. Lotus garlands that were available for about Rs 500 are now selling for around Rs 2,500. Rose garlands have increased from Rs 200 to Rs 500, while Sampige garlands have risen from Rs 500 to Rs 3,500.

Jasmine garlands have moved from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500, while round jasmine garlands have increased from around Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000.

Fruit buyers are facing a similar situation. Apples have risen from Rs 110 to Rs 270 per kg, while pomegranates have increased from Rs 120 to Rs 260. Oranges have moved from Rs 80 to Rs 180, and Elakki bananas have doubled from Rs 50 to Rs 100.

Mosambi prices have increased from about Rs 100 to Rs 150 per kg. Regular bananas have also doubled from Rs 50 to Rs 100, while grapes have climbed from Rs 70 to Rs 170. Pineapples have risen from around Rs 60 to Rs 150.

Despite the sharp increase, shoppers continue to visit KR Market and other Bengaluru markets to complete their festival purchases. For many families, the annual Varamahalakshmi celebration remains important enough that they are willing to absorb the higher prices.

The heavy shopping rush has also led to increased crowds and traffic around major markets, adding to the festive atmosphere across the city.
