8th Pay Commission update government clarifies timeline and public feedback deadline in Parliament

The central government shared key details about the 8th Pay Commission in Parliament explaining its formation timeline consultation process and the extended deadline for public suggestions through the MyGov portal.

Government explains 8th Pay Commission timeline

The central government has provided fresh information in Parliament regarding the progress of the 8th Pay Commission which is expected to review salaries pensions and allowances for central government employees and pensioners. The update was shared in a written reply in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.

According to the government the 8th Pay Commission was officially constituted on November 3 2025. As per the terms of reference the commission has been given eighteen months from the date of formation to submit its recommendations. These recommendations could propose revisions in pay structures pensions allowances and other financial benefits for government employees.

Commission begins work in New Delhi

The commission has already started its work from its office in New Delhi. Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai has been appointed as the chairperson of the panel. Pulak Ghosh is serving as a part time member while Pankaj Jain has taken charge as the member secretary.

Officials also stated that steps are being taken to appoint additional staff to support the functioning of the commission. The panel is currently focusing on gathering information and reviewing various policy aspects before preparing its final recommendations.

Public consultation deadline extended

As part of its consultation process the government has invited suggestions and feedback from citizens through the MyGov portal. An eighteen point questionnaire was released earlier to collect opinions from employees pensioners and other stakeholders.

The deadline to submit responses was initially set for March 16 but has now been extended until March 31 2026. Authorities clarified that all suggestions must be submitted through the MyGov platform only.

Since the 8th Pay Commission will influence the financial structure affecting millions of government employees and pensioners across the country its recommendations are being closely watched. However the exact financial impact on the government will become clear only after the commission submits its final report.
