According to reports multiple women have accused the officer of coercing them for sexual favours and money in exchange for resolving disputes.
Mangaluru: Inspector Sandesh P.G. of Moodbidri Police Station has been suspended following serious allegations of sexual harassment, extortion, and abuse of power, in a case that has sparked widespread outrage.
According to reports multiple women have accused the officer of coercing them for sexual favours and money in exchange for resolving disputes. Three women have filed a complaint in Bengaluru, seeking a high-level probe. The complaint has been forwarded to top authorities, including the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, and the Karnataka State Women’s Commission.
One of the victims alleged that the inspector threatened to arrest her husband and open a rowdy sheet unless she complied with his demands. “He told me to either pay ₹25 lakh or agree to a physical relationship,” she claimed, adding that ₹50,000 had already been taken from her.
The victim further alleged that the officer claimed to have paid ₹50 lakh to secure his posting, using it to justify his alleged demands. The case gained further traction after an audio clip, purportedly featuring the inspector in an inappropriate conversation, went viral on social media.
In a shocking claim, the complainant also alleged that the inspector had shown interest in her daughter and even threatened to approach her at her college. She further accused him of entering her house at night and attempting to coerce her.
Sources indicate that several other women who visited the police station for official purposes, including passport verification, may have faced similar harassment but hesitated to come forward due to fear.Taking serious note of the allegations and the viral audio, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy ordered the immediate suspension of the inspector and initiated a departmental inquiry.
“The allegations are grave and unacceptable. A detailed investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken based on the findings,” a senior police officer said. The complainants have demanded that the case be handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or the CID to ensure a fair and impartial probe.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Women’s Commission has taken note of the incident and directed authorities to submit a report, stressing that any misconduct by police officials will not be tolerated.
The case has raised serious concerns about police accountability and the safety of women approaching law enforcement, with further developments expected as the investigation progresses.
