US vows air dominance over Iran as Senate backs Trump’s military action

Washington/New York: The United States has claimed that it could achieve complete dominance over Iran’s airspace within the next few hours, amid escalating tensions between the two countries. The statement was made by Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary at the White House, during a media briefing.

Leavitt said the US military is fully prepared to establish control over Iranian airspace if required. She also stated that diplomatic efforts had been attempted earlier by US President Donald Trump to bring peace through negotiations.

“President Trump made efforts to establish peace through diplomacy, but talks were not possible as Iranian leaders continued to express hostility towards the United States,” she said.

Meanwhile, Trump has reiterated that military operations against Iran will continue. He claimed that the United States currently holds the upper hand in the conflict and vowed to eliminate what he described as “hostile forces.”

Spain signals cooperation:

Leavitt also said that Spain has agreed to cooperate with the United States military during the ongoing tensions. She expressed hope that other European allies would also extend their support.

However, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had earlier criticised the US attack on Iran, highlighting divisions among international partners regarding the military action.

US Senate backs military decision:

In a related development, the United States Senate has supported President Trump’s decision to conduct military operations against Iran. On Wednesday, the Senate voted against a bipartisan resolution that sought to limit the president’s authority to launch further military action without Congressional approval.

The resolution aimed to halt aerial warfare and require parliamentary authorisation before any further strikes against Iran. However, the motion was defeated by a vote of 52–47 in the 100-member Senate.

Most Republicans voted against the resolution, effectively backing Trump’s authority as commander-in-chief to order limited military action to defend US interests.

Supporters of the president argued that the decision to launch strikes was lawful and necessary for the protection of American national security.
