BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj Detained by CID in Rowdy-Sheeter Biklu Shivu Murder Case

Bengaluru: BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, representing the KR Puram Assembly constituency, was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday evening at Kempegowda International Airport in connection with the murder of rowdy-sheeter Biklu Shivu alias Shivakumar.

Basavaraj has been named as the fifth accused in the high-profile murder case. Following the dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea by the Supreme Court, CID officials had intensified efforts to secure his custody.

According to sources, the police received information that the MLA was arriving in Bengaluru from Gujarat by flight. Acting swiftly, CID officers waited at the airport and took him into custody at Terminal 1 soon after his arrival.

He is being taken to the CID office, where the formal arrest procedure is expected to be completed. Further legal steps, including his production before a court, are likely to follow as part of the investigation process.

The murder of Biklu Shivu, a known rowdy-sheeter, had triggered significant political and legal developments in the state. With the detention of a sitting MLA, the case has taken a dramatic turn, drawing widespread attention across Karnataka’s political circles.

Authorities have not yet released detailed statements regarding the specific allegations against Basavaraj, but sources indicate that the investigation is progressing based on evidence gathered so far.

Further updates are awaited as the CID continues its probe into the case.
