Congress leader caught at woman’s house in Chikkamagaluru, case takes dramatic turn

Chikkamagaluru : A late-night incident involving a local Congress leader and a married Hindu woman in Chikkamagaluru has created a major controversy after videos of the episode went viral on social media.

What initially appeared to be a case of moral policing has now taken multiple twists following contradictory statements from those involved.

According to reports, Congress leader Rahil Shariff was allegedly found at the residence of a married woman in Gandhi Nagar area of Chikkamagaluru city on Tuesday night.

The woman’s husband, along with a few locals, caught him red-handed and allegedly assaulted him. A video of the confrontation soon began circulating widely, triggering heated discussions in the town.

After the video went viral, the woman issued a clarification stating that there was nothing inappropriate about the incident. She claimed that Rahil Shariff was only a friend and had visited her house to deliver medicines after she called him saying she was unwell.

Shariff also gave a similar explanation, maintaining that he had come only to help her. However, the woman’s husband released another video contradicting her version. In his statement, he alleged that Shariff had come to the house late at night on his wife’s scooter.

“The main door was open when he arrived. Both of them went inside and locked the door. I stood outside in the dark and observed everything. Later, I called her relatives and went inside the house. When we checked, they were in the bedroom,” he claimed.

He further alleged that when questioned, Shariff said he had just arrived from Mumbai. “I asked him, if you came from Mumbai, why didn’t you go to your own house instead of coming here? When I confronted him, he tried to attack me with a machete,” the husband alleged in the video.

The husband also made serious accusations that Rahil Shariff was responsible for creating differences between him and his wife. “We had a love marriage, but we have been separated for the last one year. He is the reason for our separation. A year ago, a false atrocity case was filed against me, and he was behind that as well,” he alleged.

Following the uproar, Chikkamagaluru city police took suo motu cognisance of the incident. A case has been registered against six people including Rahil Shariff and the woman’s husband under Section 194(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for creating public nuisance and disturbing peace in a public place.

Police officials said they are investigating all angles, including the assault allegations and the conflicting claims made by both sides. Whether Shariff had genuinely gone to deliver medicines or was involved in something else will be known only after a detailed probe.

For now, the incident has shifted from social media outrage to a legal battle, with the truth expected to emerge through police investigation.
