Vidyasiri Scholarship 2026 Applications Open with Monthly Financial Assistance for Eligible Karnataka Students

Karnataka Backward Classes Welfare Department has invited online applications for Vidyasiri Scholarship offering monthly educational assistance to eligible students pursuing post matric courses across the state.

Students from Karnataka belonging to eligible backward class communities now have an opportunity to receive financial assistance for their higher education as the Backward Classes Welfare Department has officially opened applications for the Vidyasiri Scholarship Scheme for the 2026 27 academic year. The scholarship aims to reduce the financial burden on students who stay in private accommodation while pursuing their education and require support for food and lodging expenses.

The Vidyasiri Scholarship has become one of the state’s most important educational assistance schemes, helping thousands of deserving students continue their academic journey without financial stress. Through this initiative, the Karnataka Government provides direct monetary support to eligible beneficiaries, allowing them to focus on their studies instead of worrying about daily living costs.

According to the latest notification issued by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, students who qualify under the scheme will receive financial assistance of Rs 1500 every month. The support will be provided for a maximum period of ten months during the academic year, enabling eligible students to receive up to Rs 15000. The scholarship amount will be transferred directly to the beneficiary’s registered bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer system, ensuring transparency and timely payments.

Officials have advised eligible students to complete their online applications well before the closing date to avoid technical issues that usually occur during the final days of submission. Since applications are accepted only through the official scholarship portal, candidates are encouraged to verify all documents before beginning the registration process.

The scheme has been introduced specifically to support students from Karnataka who belong to recognized backward class categories and are pursuing higher education after completing school. It is intended for students who are living independently in private accommodation or their own residence while attending educational institutions. Since accommodation and food expenses often become a major financial challenge for families, the scholarship serves as an important source of assistance.

Eligibility for the Vidyasiri Scholarship has been clearly defined by the department. Applicants must be permanent residents of Karnataka and should belong to eligible backward class communities classified under Category One, Two A, Two B, Three A or Three B. Students studying in recognized government, aided or approved private institutions can apply for the scholarship provided they satisfy all other conditions mentioned in the official notification.

The scholarship is available for students enrolled in a wide range of post matric educational programs. Candidates pursuing Pre University courses, Industrial Training Institute programs, diploma courses, undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees and other approved post matric programs are eligible to submit applications. This broad eligibility allows students from different educational backgrounds to benefit from the financial assistance scheme.

However, the department has also clarified certain restrictions. Students who have already secured accommodation in government hostels or departmental hostels are not eligible to receive benefits under the Vidyasiri Scholarship. Since hostel residents already receive government supported boarding facilities, the financial assistance is reserved for students managing their own accommodation expenses.

Applicants must also ensure that they possess all mandatory documents before beginning the application process. An Aadhaar Card remains one of the most important identity documents required during online registration. Candidates should also keep their valid caste certificate and current income certificate ready, as these documents will be used to verify eligibility under the backward class welfare scheme.

Apart from identity and category related documents, students are required to submit copies of their previous year’s examination marks card, proof of admission for the current academic year or a valid college identity card, bank passbook linked with Aadhaar, passport size photograph and an active mobile number. Since scholarship payments are credited directly into the student’s bank account, ensuring that banking details are accurate is extremely important.

The application process has been designed to be completely online through Karnataka’s State Scholarship Portal. Interested students need to visit the official SSP website and register using the required credentials. After successful registration, applicants must complete the scholarship form by entering personal details, educational information and uploading the necessary supporting documents.

Students should carefully review every detail before final submission because incorrect information or incomplete documentation may delay the verification process or lead to rejection of the application. Officials have advised applicants to keep copies of the submitted application and acknowledgement for future reference.

The final date for submitting applications under the Vidyasiri Scholarship Scheme for the 2026 27 academic session has been fixed as August 31. Since a large number of students are expected to apply during the final days, authorities have recommended completing the process much earlier to avoid server related issues or internet connectivity problems.

Educational experts have welcomed the continuation of the Vidyasiri Scholarship, describing it as a significant initiative that promotes equal educational opportunities. Many students from economically weaker backgrounds often struggle to manage accommodation, food and transportation expenses after enrolling in colleges located away from their hometowns. Financial assistance through schemes such as Vidyasiri helps reduce dropout rates and encourages students to complete their higher education.

Parents have also appreciated the scholarship because it provides dependable financial support during the academic year. With rising living costs and educational expenses, the monthly assistance can significantly reduce the burden on families supporting children pursuing professional or higher education.

Officials have reminded students that only those fulfilling every eligibility condition should apply for the scholarship. Applications submitted with incorrect information or forged documents may invite further action under government rules. Therefore, candidates should ensure complete accuracy while filling out the online form.

Students seeking financial support for the upcoming academic year are encouraged to complete their registration through the State Scholarship Portal as early as possible. With monthly assistance of Rs 1500 available for up to ten months, the Vidyasiri Scholarship continues to play a crucial role in helping deserving students pursue higher education without allowing financial challenges to interrupt their academic ambitions.
