Defence Ministry clears ₹79,000 crore procurements to boost Indian Armed Forces

Bengaluru: In a significant move to strengthen India’s military capabilities, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved procurements worth approximately ₹79,000 crore for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The approvals, announced by the Ministry of Defence, cover advanced equipment including radars, radio sets, automated take-off and landing recording systems, and other state-of-the-art tools designed to enhance operational readiness and strategic defence.

Army upgrades
For the Indian Army, procurement has been approved for the “Lighter Munition System” to help artillery regiments strike targets with greater precision during combat. Low-level lightweight radars will also be acquired to detect small, low-flying drones.

Additionally, long-range guided rockets will enhance the range and accuracy of Pinaka rocket systems, while the integrated drone detection and interdiction system (MK-II) will strengthen protection at key military installations.

Navy modernisation
The Indian Navy will receive Bollard Pull Tugs, high-frequency software-defined radios, and high-altitude long-range remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPA).

These upgrades will improve ship movement, berthing operations, and intelligence-gathering capabilities across the Indo-Pacific. The H-Alert RPAS system will further support surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

Air Force enhancements
The Air Force will benefit from automated take-off and landing recording systems to improve flight safety. Advanced weapons (Astra M-II missiles) are being procured to increase combat power. Pilots of the Tejas light combat aircraft will have access to full-mission simulators, and the SPICE-1000 guidance kits will enhance strike accuracy.

The DAC’s approval marks a strategic push to modernise India’s defence infrastructure, strengthen operational efficiency across all three services, and ensure preparedness in rapidly evolving threat environments.
