BJP state chief Vijayendra accuses Congress of looting state treasury to satisfy high command

Bengaluru: BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra on Thursday accused the Congress government in Karnataka of systematically looting the state treasury to appease its high command, claiming widespread corruption and financial mismanagement across various state departments.

Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, Vijayendra alleged that the state government has turned into an “ATM” for the Congress high command, with huge sums of money siphoned from the Valmiki Development Corporation and other state projects.

According to Vijayendra, hundreds of crores of rupees meant for public welfare and development projects were instead redirected to serve the interests of the party’s top leadership. He further claimed that the state has witnessed a series of irregularities and scams in recent years, with contractors being forced to pay commissions to secure government projects.

“The contractor associations themselves have written letters expressing their dissatisfaction over the rampant corruption. If corruption ends, development in the state would come to a halt, they argue,” Vijayendra said.

The BJP leader contended that the Congress leadership in Karnataka has stalled genuine developmental work, draining state resources for party purposes. “While the state’s development has stagnated, Congress leaders are emptying the state treasury and sending the money directly to their high command,” Vijayendra alleged, emphasizing that public funds are being diverted rather than used for the welfare of citizens.

Vijayendra also commented on the ongoing state assembly session, urging people to consider the position of the Chief Minister. He stated, “Understanding the Chief Minister’s approach is crucial. By observing the tone of their statements, one can understand the lack of seriousness.

The outgoing Chief Ministers rarely engage in meaningful discussions in the House. What matters is not the number of days someone remains in office, but what they have achieved for the state during their tenure.”

He further added, “Even in the final session of Siddaramaiah, there should be meaningful discussions on the problems of North Karnataka. Those who have done nothing in the past two years cannot be expected to resolve major issues in just a couple of weeks.”

Vijayendra’s allegations come amid growing criticism from opposition parties regarding the state government’s handling of public funds and ongoing corruption cases. He highlighted the role of the Valmiki Development Corporation, alleging that it has become a channel for diverting funds to satisfy party leadership, leaving public projects underfunded and state development at a standstill.

The BJP leader also criticized the Congress leadership’s lack of accountability, pointing out that key decisions have been taken to benefit party high command rather than the citizens of Karnataka. “The government’s priorities are misaligned. Instead of ensuring development, they are focusing on enriching the party leadership at the expense of public resources,” he said.

Vijayendra’s remarks underline the political tension in Karnataka, with the BJP actively highlighting alleged financial mismanagement and corruption within the Congress-led state government. He urged authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in state spending and criticized the government for ignoring the welfare of citizens while focusing on internal party gains.
