Karnataka: IMD Issued heavy rainfall alert for next 5 days

Karnataka: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall alerts for Karnataka are primarily confined to the southern and coastal parts of the state for the next few days, largely due to the influence of the weakening cyclonic system (Ditwah) near the Tamil Nadu coast.

Light to Moderate Rain expected at a few places in South Interior Karnataka (SIK), with chances of thunderstorms and lightning. Bengaluru (Urban & Rural), Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagara, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Tumakuru are likely to see rain on Dec 3rd and 4th.

Light to Moderate Rain is likely at one or two places in Coastal Karnataka (CK). Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts may see isolated rain, especially on December 3rd and 4th. The rest of the period is likely to be dry.

Dry weather is expected to prevail across all districts in North Interior Karnataka (NIK). The immediate threat of heavy to very heavy rainfall is focused on Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Karnataka is expected to receive only light to moderate rain in the southern and coastal areas.

Red Alert issued in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram have experienced extremely heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, leading to severe waterlogging and disruption.

Authorities have officially declared a holiday for Schools and Colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram for tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, as a safety measure.

Squally winds with speeds of 45 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are expected to gradually decrease along the North Coastal and adjoining districts tonight and tomorrow morning.

Public Advisory: Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid areas with heavy waterlogging, and listen to official advisories. The cyclonic system is expected to weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area by tomorrow, bringing a gradual relief in the intensity of rainfall, though scattered showers will continue.
