CM Siddaramaiah lashes out at reporter over question on DK Shivakumar taking oath as chief minister on November 21

CM Siddaramaiah: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lost his cool on Friday when a reporter asked him about reports claiming that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar would take oath as the next chief minister on November 21.

During an interaction with journalists at Vidhana Soudha, the question visibly irritated the Chief Minister, who immediately shot back, “Who told you that? Who said it? How did you come to know? Which newspaper reported it? I read all the papers — it hasn’t been published anywhere,” Siddaramaiah retorted. When the reporter mentioned the name of the publication, the CM chose not to respond further and walked away.

The incident comes amid growing speculation within the Congress about a possible leadership change as the Siddaramaiah government approaches the halfway mark of its five-year term in November. Several leaders have hinted at a “November revolution,” referring to the alleged agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for a rotational chief ministership.

However, Siddaramaiah has repeatedly asserted that he intends to complete the full five-year term, dismissing the rumours as baseless.

Reports suggest that during the post-election negotiations in May 2023, when both leaders were vying for the chief minister’s post, the Congress high command had reportedly brokered a compromise — Siddaramaiah would serve the first half of the term, followed by DK Shivakumar. Yet, the party has never confirmed such an arrangement officially.

As the government nears two and a half years in power, political circles are abuzz with speculation, but both the chief minister and the deputy chief minister have maintained public silence on any transition plans.
