DK Shivakumar plays down CM remark, says ‘whatever Siddaramaiah says, we accept’

Bengaluru : Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday dismissed speculation over Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent statement that he would remain in office for the full term if the Congress high command permits.

Speaking to reporters near Kempegowda International Airport, DK Shivakumar said, “Once the Chief Minister has spoken, the matter ends there. Whatever he says, we listen. There’s nothing more to it.”

His remarks came amid growing political chatter over possible leadership change in Karnataka, with several Congress ministers making contrasting statements in recent days.

Explaining his recent visit to Delhi, the Deputy CM clarified that it was not related to any meeting with the party high command. “I had gone to Delhi only to offer condolences at the residence of Ambika Soni, a member of our party’s working committee, whose husband had passed away,” he said.

Recalling his personal rapport with Soni, DK Shivakumar added, “When I was in Tihar Jail, Ambika Soni visited me along with Sonia Gandhi. During S.M. Krishna’s tenure, she was the general secretary in charge of Karnataka and treated me like her own brother. She always encouraged my work.”

When asked about speculation linking his visit to discussions on power-sharing, Shivakumar brushed it off, saying, “People can talk whatever they want. It doesn’t concern me. I only speak about matters related to work.”

His statement comes as the Congress government nears the halfway mark of its tenure, with discussions on cabinet reshuffle and leadership transition intensifying ahead of the 2025 Bihar elections.
