Cab Driver Arrested for Assaulting College Student at Kempegowda Airport
Kempegowda Airport: Police have arrested a cab driver for allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old college student near Kempegowda International Airport. The incident occurred on October 20, when the student reportedly questioned the driver over a missed toll payment. The accused has been identified as Ajaz P.S. (31), a native of Thrissur, Kerala.
According to the student’s father, the victim, a resident of West Bengal, is pursuing a degree at a private university in Bengaluru. She had booked the cab through an online aggregator and had paid the toll charges in advance.
Despite this, the driver allegedly skipped the toll, and when confronted, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. The student asked him to stop the car, which led to a heated argument.
Following the argument, the student alighted and booked another cab. As she attempted to board the second cab, the accused reportedly attacked her, causing her to leave her belongings behind. The driver fled the scene immediately.
Based on the complaint, police have filed cases under sections of the Indian Penal Code including voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement. Investigations revealed that the driver had arrived in Bengaluru from Kerala two days prior to the incident and was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he accepted the student’s booking.
The accused has now been taken into police custody, and authorities are continuing their investigation. Officials have warned that any form of assault or intimidation against passengers will be met with strict action.
