Bengaluru : The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rain will continue for a few more days across Karnataka, issuing a yellow alert for 28 districts for Friday. While coastal Karnataka has witnessed heavy rainfall over the past three to four days, the intensity is likely to decrease, though wind speeds are expected to remain strong.
According to the forecast, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi districts may receive moderate showers, but the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea due to high wind speeds reaching 40–50 km/h. Over 50 fishing boats have already returned to shore, and hundreds more remain anchored at ports. This weather pattern, coupled with low air pressure over the sea, has once again disrupted fishing activity, which had only recently resumed after a delayed start this year.
The southern and coastal districts are expected to receive more rainfall than the northern interior regions. Districts such as Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Tumakuru, Hassan, Chitradurga, Davangere, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga are all under yellow alert for moderate rainfall.
In north Karnataka, areas including Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Ballari, and Vijayanagar are likely to experience similar weather with occasional heavy spells accompanied by strong winds.
In the state capital Bengaluru, light to moderate rain is expected on Friday, with showers likely early in the morning and again in the afternoon. Wind speeds may range between 6–12 km/h, while temperatures are expected to hover around a maximum of 26°C and a minimum of 20°C.
The IMD has urged citizens to remain alert and follow local advisories, especially in low-lying and coastal regions where intermittent rainfall and gusty winds could lead to temporary disruptions.
