Chittapur Path Sanchalan Denied: Tahsildar Cites Law and Order Concerns Amid Multiple Rally Requests
Chittapur, Kalaburagi: The proposed Path Sanchalan (route march) by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Chittapur has been denied permission by Tahsildar Nagayya Hiremath, citing potential law and order issues.
The decision was issued late Saturday night following reports that other organizations, including Bhima Army and Dalit Panther, had also sought permission to hold rallies at the same time and location.
In his letter to RSS district coordinator Prahlad Vishwakarma, the Tahsildar stated that simultaneous processions by multiple groups could lead to unrest. The police department had advised against granting permission, warning of possible disruptions to public peace.
RSS volunteers had made elaborate preparations for the march, including the installation of saffron flags, banners, and buntings across Chittapur, which is represented by Minister Priyank Kharge. However, municipal officials removed the decorations early Saturday morning, citing lack of prior approval.
District Superintendent of Police Addoor Srinivasulu visited the town on Saturday night to assess security arrangements. The denial of permission has sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders accusing the administration of bias and suppression.
The incident adds to ongoing tensions surrounding public space usage and political symbolism, especially in constituencies with heightened ideological contestation. Further developments are expected as stakeholders respond to the decision.
