Fake Kuwait job racket exposed in Uttara Kannada; Rs 52 lakh fraud on 30 youths

Fake Kuwait job: A major job scam has come to light in Uttara Kannada district, where a gang duped around 30 unemployed youths of Rs 52 lakh, promising lucrative jobs at the Kuwait Defense Hospital.

The accused have been identified as Jaffer Sadiq Moktesar and Naushaad Kwaja from Herangadi in Honnavar taluk, along with Sujatha Jammi from Hyderabad. The trio allegedly targeted unemployed youths in Karnataka and Kerala, luring them with fake overseas employment offers.

According to police sources, in December last year, the gang circulated a fake recruitment notification for the Kuwait Defense Hospital, claiming that selected candidates could earn several lakhs per month. The youths were shown a website advertisement that appeared genuine, convincing them to transfer large sums for “visa processing” and “medical verification.”

The victims collectively transferred Rs 52,01,185 into Jaffer’s bank account. One of the key intermediaries, Naushaad, who had good connections in Mangaluru and Kasaragod, had been in constant contact with Jaffer. Believing Jaffer’s assurances, Naushaad informed several job-seeking youths about the opportunity.

As time passed, several victims grew suspicious when no appointment letters or travel documents arrived. Whenever they questioned the delay, Jaffer reportedly switched off his phone for days. When confronted by Naushaad, Jaffer allegedly insisted that the jobs were real and urged them to trust the “official” Kuwait Defense website, which he had manipulated to gain credibility.

However, even after a year, none of the promised jobs materialized. Realizing they had been cheated, the victims demanded their money back — but Jaffer went absconding. Investigators have since confirmed that Jaffer was operating with two other associates, one of whom, Naushaad, has been taken into custody by Honnavar Police.

Police have registered a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy under relevant sections of the IPC. Efforts are on to trace the main accused, Jaffer, who is reportedly on the run.
