IMD issued very heavy rainfall in coastal Karnataka till July 27
IMD issued very heavy rainfall: India Meteorological Department (IMD) indeed a heavy rain alert for Coastal Karnataka, extending until at least July 27, 2025. The IMD has issued Red Alerts for Coastal Karnataka and Orange Alerts for South Interior Karnataka, indicating significant rainfall is expected.
Widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted to continue in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, which constitute Coastal Karnataka. Sustained winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely to accompany the heavy rainfall in coastal areas. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to the prevailing wind speeds (up to 40-50 kmph along the coastline).

Heavy downpours have already disrupted normal life in these coastal districts, leading to school and college closures in some areas. The weather is influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, and an east-west trough running from North-Central Karnataka to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
A fresh low-pressure area is also likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around July 24, which could further intensify rainfall. Residents, especially in coastal areas, are urged to remain cautious as intermittent heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding and disruption of daily life.

In essence, Coastal Karnataka is bracing for and already experiencing a period of intense monsoon activity, with the heavy rain spell expected to last until at least July 27th. Keep an eye on local news and official IMD updates for the most precise and up-to-date information.
