OnePlus 16 Set to Arrive With Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

OnePlus is preparing its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, with a combination of high end hardware, gaming features and a large battery. The new model is expected to replace the OnePlus 15 and could be introduced as soon as next month.

The processor is one of the biggest highlights of the upcoming smartphone. OnePlus has revealed through a post on Weibo that the device will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The chipset is expected to feature three efficiency cores, three performance cores and two prime cores.

Gaming is clearly a major focus for the company this time. The OnePlus 16 will come with the Wind Chaser Gaming Kernel, along with a high refresh rate system and an E Sports Triple Chip setup. OnePlus says these technologies can help the smartphone deliver gaming performance of up to 185 frames per second under supported conditions.

Benchmark figures have also added to the attention surrounding the device. On the AnTuTu platform, the OnePlus 16 reportedly recorded 14,58,283 points in the CPU performance test and 20,10,584 points in the GPU performance test.

The phone is also expected to offer several memory and storage combinations. The reported options include 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage, 12 GB RAM with 512 GB storage, 16 GB RAM with 512 GB storage and 16 GB RAM with 1 TB storage.

There is also speculation that OnePlus could bring back an 8 GB RAM version with the new flagship. The company has not offered an 8 GB RAM variant in its recent flagship lineup since the OnePlus 11, making such a configuration notable if it becomes official.

Battery capacity is another area where the OnePlus 16 could see a significant change. The smartphone is expected to carry a 9000mAh battery. This would represent a substantial increase over the 7300mAh battery used in the OnePlus 15.

Software will also receive an update with the new flagship. The OnePlus 16 is expected to run ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. If confirmed, it would become the first OnePlus smartphone to launch with this version of ColorOS.

The software and hardware combination is clearly being developed with performance in mind. Alongside the Snapdragon chipset, the gaming kernel and additional gaming hardware are intended to improve responsiveness and maintain performance during demanding games.
