OnePlus 16 Could Debut With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Chipset

OnePlus is reportedly preparing its next flagship smartphone with a powerful new chipset, gaming focused hardware, upgraded memory options and premium specifications for global markets.

OnePlus appears to be preparing its next flagship smartphone, with the OnePlus 16 expected to arrive as the successor to the OnePlus 15. While the company has not yet announced the complete specifications or launch details, recent leaks have started revealing important information about the upcoming device.

The most notable detail is the processor. According to information shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, a smartphone identified by the model number PYB110 has recently received radio certification in China. The device is believed to be the OnePlus 16. If the information is accurate, the upcoming smartphone could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.

This would put the OnePlus 16 firmly in the premium performance segment. The new processor is expected to focus heavily on performance and efficiency, making it particularly interesting for users who want a flagship phone for gaming, multitasking and demanding applications.

The leaked certification information also points towards support for several connectivity standards. The OnePlus 16 is expected to support 5G networks along with GSM, LTE FDD and WLAN connectivity. These features should allow the smartphone to offer broad network compatibility and fast wireless connectivity.

Gaming is also expected to remain an important part of the OnePlus 16 experience. OnePlus has already indicated that its upcoming smartphone will receive several technologies aimed at improving gaming performance. These include the Wind Chaser Gaming Core, high refresh rate support and an E Sports Triple Chip system.

The company appears to be positioning the phone as more than a conventional flagship. Gaming has become an increasingly important part of premium smartphone design, and OnePlus seems ready to continue developing hardware and software specifically for users who spend long periods playing demanding mobile games.

Another interesting development could be the return of an eight GB RAM configuration. OnePlus has not offered an eight GB RAM option in its flagship series since the OnePlus 11. If the latest leak turns out to be accurate, the OnePlus 16 could bring back this memory option for customers looking for a lower priced configuration.

According to another reported leak, the entry version of the OnePlus 16 could come with eight GB RAM and 256 GB storage. This model is tipped to carry a price of around CNY 4,999 in China, which is approximately 70,600 rupees based on the conversion mentioned in the report.

A twelve GB RAM and 256 GB storage version could reportedly be priced around CNY 5,499, equivalent to approximately 77,600 rupees. Another twelve GB RAM model with 512 GB storage is expected to cost around CNY 5,999, or roughly 84,700 rupees.

There could also be a special limited edition configuration aimed at users who want maximum storage and memory. This version is reportedly expected to feature 16 GB RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. Its rumored Chinese price is around CNY 7,499, which translates to approximately 1,05,900 rupees.

These prices should not be considered Indian launch prices at this stage. OnePlus has not officially confirmed the pricing structure for India, and taxes, local pricing strategies and configuration differences could result in substantially different prices when the phone eventually reaches the Indian market.

The OnePlus 16 is expected to replace the OnePlus 15, which was launched in India in November last year. The previous model featured a 6.78 inch FHD Plus LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,272 by 2,772 pixels. It supported refresh rates of up to 165Hz and offered peak brightness of up to 1,800 nits.

The OnePlus 15 was powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and included Android 840 GPU according to the supplied specifications. The device runs on ColorOS 16 based on Android 16 and includes several features designed specifically for gaming.

One of the key technologies in the OnePlus 15 is the Ice River vapor cooling system. The cooling setup was developed to help control temperatures during intensive tasks, particularly gaming. The phone also supports frame rates of up to 165 frames per second in selected games.

The expected OnePlus 16 could take this performance oriented approach even further with its rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor and dedicated gaming technologies. If the company maintains the high refresh rate approach of the previous generation, the upcoming device could also appeal strongly to mobile gamers.

The possibility of higher memory configurations is another major point of interest. With a potential 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage edition, OnePlus could target customers who want a phone capable of handling heavy multitasking while keeping large amounts of applications, games and media stored locally.

However, it is important to remember that most details about the OnePlus 16 are currently based on leaks and reports rather than a complete official announcement. Specifications, configurations, pricing and availability can change before the final launch.

The smartphone is expected to make its first appearance in China before reaching other markets. India remains an important market for OnePlus, particularly in the premium smartphone segment, so more information about an Indian launch could emerge closer to the official announcement.

For now, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, gaming focused hardware and possible return of the eight GB RAM configuration are among the most interesting details surrounding the OnePlus 16. If these reports prove accurate, OnePlus could be preparing another performance focused flagship designed to compete strongly in the premium smartphone market.
