Heavy rain swept across several parts of Delhi early on Thursday, leaving roads submerged and disrupting normal life across the city. Waterlogging was reported in many low lying areas, while commuters faced long traffic delays as key roads became difficult to navigate.
The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for multiple parts of the national capital, warning that more rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over the coming hours. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
Continuous rainfall affected several important locations, including areas around New Delhi Railway Station and Munirka, where standing water slowed traffic movement and created inconvenience for daily commuters. Civic agencies have been monitoring the situation and working to clear waterlogged stretches.
The spell of heavy rain is part of the widespread monsoon activity affecting several northern states. Officials are keeping a close watch on weather developments as more showers are expected in the region.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the rain related situation across the country following reports of severe weather in multiple states. He spoke with the chief ministers of the affected states to assess the impact of heavy rainfall, including recent incidents such as landslides in Wayanad, flash floods in Doda, and rain related damage reported from Maharashtra and Gujarat. Authorities continue to monitor conditions and coordinate relief efforts where required.
