Heavy Rain Alert Till July 11 in Karnataka: Declared school holiday in these districts

Coastal Karnataka, Malnad, and South Interior Karnataka are expected to receive very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify further across Karnataka, with heavy rainfall likely to continue until July 11. High Alert Issued for Karnataka’s Coastal Region like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada.

According to the IMD, monsoon activity is set to become more vigorous over the next seven days, bringing widespread rain across the state. Coastal Karnataka, Malnad, and South Interior Karnataka are expected to receive very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds.

School Holiday Declared in Parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru Amid Heavy Rain:

Shivamogga/Chikkamagaluru: As incessant monsoon rain continues to batter Karnataka’s Malnad region, authorities have declared a holiday for educational institutions in selected taluks as a precautionary measure.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has severely disrupted normal life in Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga district. In view of the prevailing weather conditions, Tahsildar Bharat Raj has declared a holiday on July 6 for all Anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges in the taluk.

In Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district, continuous rainfall has raised concerns over flooding and road connectivity. As a precaution, Tahsildar Ashwini has announced a holiday for all Anganwadis and primary schools in the taluk. Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and have advised residents, students, and parents to remain alert and prioritize safety until weather conditions improve.

Districts on High Alert:

The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places across the coastal and Malnad districts between July 5 and July 8. A high alert has already been issued for the coastal belt, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Tourists have also been urged to avoid visiting coastal and vulnerable areas during this period.

In Kasaragod and other coastal districts, intermittent rain with cloudy skies and gusty winds is expected. However, rainfall intensity is likely to decrease significantly from July 9 onwards.

Districts including Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga are likely to witness cloudy weather with spells of light to moderate rain. Normal monsoon showers are expected to continue in the Malnad region until July 8, after which rainfall is expected to gradually reduce.

North Interior Karnataka Weather:

Light rain and cloudy conditions are expected in Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, and Gadag districts. Meanwhile, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Koppal, Ballari, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, and Bidar are likely to experience partly cloudy skies with isolated light showers.
