Massive Potholes Appear on Delhi Dehradun Expressway

Large potholes have appeared on the Delhi Dehradun Expressway within months of its inauguration, damaging vehicles and triggering concerns over road quality, safety, and construction standards.

The Delhi Dehradun Expressway has come under scrutiny after massive potholes appeared on a section of the newly opened highway. The incident has raised questions about construction quality, as the expressway was inaugurated only a few months ago.

The potholes were reported near Hathi Karoda village in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district. Several vehicles travelling at high speed reportedly suffered damage after hitting the deep craters, with some motorists experiencing tyre and wheel damage.

Alert drivers at the scene warned other commuters about the damaged stretch, helping prevent further accidents. Videos of the potholes quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking public concern over road safety.

The development has also triggered a political debate. Opposition parties questioned the quality of the road construction and alleged irregularities in the execution of the project, demanding accountability from the authorities.

Built at an estimated cost of around Rs 12,000 crore, the 212 kilometre Delhi Dehradun Expressway was designed to reduce travel time between the two cities to about two hours. The highway was opened to the public only recently.

Following criticism and public complaints, officials inspected the affected stretch and carried out temporary repair work. Authorities are expected to conduct further assessments to ensure the safety and durability of the expressway.
