Bengaluru: A devastating quarry accident claimed the lives of eight workers from Bihar in the early hours of Thursday at Madapattan in the Yeshwanthpur Assembly constituency of Bengaluru South taluk. The workers were killed on the spot after a massive rock collapsed following a powerful gelatin explosive blast. More than five other workers sustained serious injuries in the incident.

According to preliminary reports, over 15 workers were engaged in routine mining operations when gelatin sticks used for rock blasting exploded. The powerful blast triggered the collapse of huge boulders, which fell directly on the workers.

Eight labourers died instantly, while several others suffered severe injuries. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital, where some are said to be in critical condition. Rescue teams fear that a few more workers may still be trapped beneath the debris, and search and rescue operations are currently underway.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire quarry area. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the alleged use of illegal explosives and possible violations of mandatory safety regulations at the quarry.
