Muslim Community Presses Congress for Greater Cabinet Representation in Karnataka
Soon after the new Karnataka government took office, Muslim leaders demanded four additional cabinet berths, warning Congress that ignoring the community’s representation concerns could have electoral consequences.

The formation of Karnataka’s new government has sparked a fresh political debate over cabinet representation, with leaders from the Muslim community urging the Congress leadership to allocate more ministerial positions to minority legislators. The demand has emerged just days after the swearing in of the new administration headed by D K Shivakumar.
Community leaders and religious figures in Hubballi have collectively called for greater participation of Muslim legislators in the state cabinet. While U T Khader has already been inducted as a minister under the minority quota, representatives of the community argue that additional senior Muslim legislators should also be accommodated in the next phase of cabinet expansion.
According to the leaders, the Congress party received substantial support from minority voters during the elections, and they believe that support should be reflected through adequate representation in the government. They have urged the party’s high command to take an early decision, particularly with future parliamentary and local body elections on the horizon.
Speaking publicly in Hubballi, several community representatives expressed dissatisfaction over the current composition of the cabinet. They stated that the party must recognize the role played by minority voters in its electoral success and ensure broader participation in governance.
The leaders specifically demanded cabinet positions for senior legislators including Zameer Ahmed, N A Harris, Tanveer Sait and Saleem Ahmed. They argued that these experienced politicians deserve ministerial responsibilities alongside U T Khader in the new administration.
The demand has placed additional pressure on the Congress leadership as it prepares for the next round of cabinet expansion. Political observers note that balancing regional, caste, community and factional interests will be a major challenge for the government in the coming weeks.
With expectations rising from various groups, attention is now focused on how the Congress high command will finalize its cabinet structure. The decision is likely to influence not only the internal dynamics of the ruling party but also its relationship with key voter communities ahead of future elections.
