84-Year-Old Convicted in Case After 33 Years

A court in Bihar has convicted an 84-year-old man in an attempted murder case more than three decades after the incident, drawing attention to the lengthy judicial process.

An 84-year-old man from Bihar has been found guilty in an attempted murder case, more than 33 years after the incident first took place. The verdict has sparked widespread discussion, with many highlighting the extraordinary delay between the crime and the court’s final decision.

The case dates back to November 1992 in Vaishali district. According to court records, a dispute broke out between two neighboring families after questions were raised over broken glass pieces allegedly being placed on a village road. What began as a verbal argument soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation and filed a charge sheet in March 1993. Formal charges were framed several years later, and the matter remained under trial for decades as the judicial process slowly moved forward.

During the lengthy proceedings, several accused individuals passed away. The court examined testimony from multiple witnesses and reviewed the available evidence before arriving at its conclusion.

After considering all material placed before it, the court held Deep Rai, now 84 years old, guilty in the case. The sentencing hearing was scheduled separately, and the quantum of punishment is expected to be announced soon.

The verdict has attracted attention on social media, where many users are debating the implications of a judgment delivered more than three decades after the original incident. Images of the elderly convict have also been widely shared online, with public interest focused on what sentence the court will ultimately impose.
